California Green Chemistry
Created and enforced by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), the Safer Consumer Products Regulations – or as they are more commonly referred to, California Green Chemistry Regulations – went into effect on October 1, 2013. The regulations were created to specify the process for identifying and prioritizing Priority Products and their Chemicals of Concern, and identifying and analyzing alternatives to determine how best to eliminate or reduce potential exposures to, or the level of potential adverse impacts posed by, the Chemical(s) of Concern in Priority Products. AAFA has created a primer to help companies understand the Safer Consumer Products Regulations and to provide educational information with respect to the new California Green Chemistry Regulations.
To help identify the Priority Products, DTSC has released an informational list of Candidate Chemicals, as well as a Candidate Chemical Database.
More information is available at the Safer Consumer Products Web Portal.
